Face Lift and An Uplift - New Beginnings

All artists need changes. We can become stagnant, stuck in a place we need to get out of. I'm out of my comfort zone now as the new paint goes on in my studio. I'm really nervous and excited much like starting a new painting. I can feel the juices flowing but can I capture on canvas what I feel inside? I must listen to the positive voice of my muse that tells me I that I can do this and do it beautifully. I have to be true to me and listen to my instinct while muting out the other negative voices that like to chime in as a chorus from time to time. Am I talking about painting my studio or starting a new painting? Once the painting is finished and I have the newly painted bare walls staring at me isn't it like looking a blank canvas?

  1. congrats on the studio face-lift! I love your new pastel paintings! Fabulous job! I've started working the book "The Arist's Way" by Julia Cameron... have you read it? Your comments about your muse and negative voices (the critic or censor)made me think of it. I let my critic have it's way in daily writings so that I can banish it to the dungeon for the rest of the day, so my inner child artist and I can play untouched by it's criticism... so far, it's been working out great. :)

  2. Great comment. Thanks Deb. I haven't read the book but have heard a lot of artists comments on it, all good. Blogging ( when I do it) is very therapeutic. for me.

  3. Oh, I know what you mean about blogging being therapeutic. Especially when other artist friends drop by the blog and leave encouragement and support. I really do enjoy your work, it inspires me to keep trying new things. :)

  4. I'm intrigued with your using linen mat board. Do you like that surface as compared to pastel papers? Stunning abstracts!

  5. Thanks for your support Deb. I don't know what I would do if I didn't paint. Trying out new things always brings me a rush.

  6. Kelly, I like linen mat board very much. It brings out a wonderful glow in the pastels. They seem to radiate. Thank you for your complement.
